MINDFULNESS-BASED COUNSELING IN CENTENNIAL, COLORADO
Helping Your Child Navigate Big Feelings, Worries, and Everyday Stress
Is your child struggling with school anxiety, intense meltdowns, or persistent worries? Traditional "talk therapy" can feel overwhelming for young minds. At Hopeful Sky Counseling, I use creative, play-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness to help Centennial kids learn to manage their emotions, build resilience, and discover their inner strength.
Is Your Child Stuck in a Loop of Worry or Big Meltdowns?
As parents, there is nothing harder than watching your child struggle and feeling like you’ve run out of tools to help them. You want them to enjoy being a kid, but instead, you notice:
- Frequent "Tummy Aches" & Headaches: Especially on Sunday nights or Monday mornings before school.
- Intense Emotional Meltdowns: Small triggers lead to massive explosions, crying fits, or complete shutdowns that leave the whole household walking on eggshells.
- The Perfectionism Trap: They get deeply frustrated when they make a mistake on homework, art projects, or sports, sometimes giving up entirely.
- School Avoidance & Social Withdrawal: You hear concerns from teachers in the [Cherry Creek or Littleton school districts] about them shutting down, refusing to participate, or struggling to make friends.
You’ve tried reassuring them, logic, and rewards, but the worries keep winning. That’s because children don’t need to be told to stop worrying—they need to be shown how to handle worry when it shows up.

Making Therapy Fun, Visual, and Practical for Kids
Children don't sit on a couch and talk for 50 minutes. Our Centennial therapists adapt Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness into interactive, play-based activities that kids actually look forward to.
Through ACT and mindfulness, I help your child learn three core skills:
1. Naming and Taming the "Worry Monster" (Defusion)
I help kids realize they are not their thoughts. By externalizing their anxiety (e.g., drawing their "worry monster" or talking about their "brain bully"), they learn that thoughts are just thoughts—not rules they have to follow.
2. "Dropping the Anchor" During Emotional Storms (Mindfulness)
When a child is having a meltdown, their brain is in "fight or flight." I teach them physical, fun grounding exercises (like "balloon breathing" or "5-4-3-2-1 search") that act as an anchor, keeping them safe and steady when emotional waves hit.
3. Choosing Bravery & Kind Behaviors (Values-Based Action)
I help your child identify what kind of friend, student, and family member they want to be. Using creative games, I encourage them to take "brave steps" even when they feel scared, teaching them that courage isn't the absence of fear, but doing what matters anyway.
Supporting Centennial Families & Students
Raising kids in the south metro Denver area comes with unique pressures. Between high academic expectations, sports leagues, and busy social calendars, our kids are facing stress earlier than ever before.
Our warm, kid-friendly therapy office in Centennial, Colorado is designed to feel like a safe haven. Conveniently located near local parks and schools, I provide a welcoming environment where your child can let their guard down. I work collaboratively with parents and, when helpful, can coordinate with counselors and teachers in Cherry Creek School District and Littleton Public Schools to ensure your child has a seamless web of support.
What Your Child Will Take Home from Therapy.
Our goal is to send your child back into the world with a customized "mental toolbox" they can use at home, in the classroom, and on the playground:
Self-Regulation:
The ability to pause, take a deep breath, and make a calm choice when they are angry or overwhelmed.
Increased Resilience:
Children receive compassionate support while learning healthy ways to process sadness, confusion, and change.
Effective Communication:
Being able to put words to their feelings (*"I'm feeling anxious right now"*) instead of acting them out behaviorally.
Confidence:
A stronger sense of self-worth that isn't tied entirely to their grades, performance, or popularity.
Let’s Build a Brighter, Calmer Future for Your Child
You don’t have to navigate this challenging season alone. Let us partner with you to help your child find their footing and regain their natural, joyful spark.
Contact us today to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. I’ll discuss your child’s needs, explain my approach, and determine whether I may be a good fit for your family.
These positive changes often continue long after counseling has ended because children gain lifelong emotional skills.
Will my child have to sit still during mindfulness sessions?
Not at all! I do not expect children to sit silently and meditate. Our mindfulness practices for kids are active, sensory, and playful. I use bubbles, kinetic sand, movement, and drawing to help them connect to the present moment in a way that feels like play.
How involved are parents in the therapy process?
Very! You are the expert on your child. While the therapist will work one-on-one with your child, we always include parents in the process. I will check in with you regularly, share the tools your child is learning, and give you practical strategies to reinforce these mindfulness and ACT skills at home.
