Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
CBT | ACT | Mindfulness
When we experience a traumatic or highly stressful event, the brain can sometimes struggle to process the information normally. The memory gets "stuck" in its raw, emotional form, causing you to relive the anxiety, fear, or negative beliefs long after the event has passed.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) may help reduce the emotional intensity associated with distressing memories and support the healing process.
How Does It Work?
EMDR doesn’t require you to talk in depth about the trauma or relive the pain. Instead, it uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided side-to-side eye movements, light taps, or tones) to stimulate both sides of the brain.
This process mimics the natural processing that happens during REM (dream) sleep. It helps your brain take the painful memory and store it correctly, so it loses its emotional charge.
The Result: Many people find that they can remember the experience without feeling the same level of emotional distress.

What Can EMDR Help With?
While originally developed to treat PTSD, EMDR is highly effective for a wide range of challenges, including:
- Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
- Depression and chronic sadness
- Childhood trauma or neglect
- Chronic pain or illness
- Disturbing memories
- Performance anxiety and low self-esteem
Why Choose EMDR?
Faster Relief:
EMDR often helps clients achieve results in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy alone.
Less Talking, More Healing:
You don't have to explain every detail of your past to find relief.
Holistic Processing:
It addresses how trauma lives in your mind and your body.
What to Expect in a Session
Your safety and comfort are the top priorities. We start by building coping skills to ensure you feel grounded. When you are ready, we will target specific memories using bilateral stimulation. Many clients describe the experience as a feeling of "lightening the load" or finally putting down a weight they've been carrying for years.
